Spiced Gingerbread Cookies

Who doesn’t like the world of Christmas and that spicy fragrance that spreads throughout the house? For me, such gingerbreads are a tradition because we make them for the whole family and then hang them on the Christmas tree. However, the decidedly spicy spices that add to these Spiced Gingerbread Cookies make them unique and disappear before Christmas. Fortunately, I know a few ways to make your gingerbreads soft quickly.

How to choose the best ingredients for Spiced Gingerbread Cookies

Honey: choose your favorite honey at your fingertips; it should be natural and of good quality.

Butter: Butter and only butter are suitable for this recipe; unsalted butter with no additives.

Brown sugar: Brown sugar gives a rustic look and, just like honey, turns gingerbread cookies a brown color. Suppose you have white sugar or cane sugar. It can also be. With white sugar, just gingerbread cookies will be slightly brighter.

Egg: the egg can be of any size it does not matter for our cookies

Flour: all-purpose flour may be used for Spiced Gingerbread Cookies, which must be sieved before use. You can use a strainer for this.

Spiced Gingerbread: I make the Spiced Gingerbread Cookies myself. I always make more of it and store it in a tightly closed container in a dark place. I also use this spice in carrot cake and other baked goods. You can find the recipe for making a pre-selected gingerbread spice on my blog.

Tips and tricks

  • You don’t have to bake the gingerbread dough on the same day, and you can store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days in a tightly closed container or bag.
  • Gingerbread cookies should be made two weeks before use to make them soft.
  • As you forgot to make gingerbread cookies and don’t need them to be soft quickly, it belongs to the container in which we store them. Add apple, lemon, or oranges cut into quarters. Thanks to this, the gingerbreads will absorb moisture from the fruit and soften faster. They should be ready from 24 hours to 36 hours.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 90 gr butter
  • 2/3 cup  brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2,5 cups plain flour
  • 1-2 tsp Gingerbreads spice
  • 1 tsp baking powder

Instructions

  • Honey, butter, and sugar, heat to dissolve the sugar. You can put it in a bowl or put it on the table right away. I always prefer to put them in the bowl, then the ingredients join together faster, and the top is not so stuck with dough.
  • Cool and until warm.
  • Add an egg, make and knead the dough, then put it on the table. I use a silicone mat to cut cookies.
  • Divide the dough into 3 equal parts and roll out a 0.5 cm thick cake. Cut out your favorite patterns.
  • Fight to a thickness of 0.5 cm and cut your favorite gingerbread.
  • I sometimes use a pattern fight, so I don't have to decorate them, and they are delicious too.
  • The ready-made gingerbread cookies will be soft after being removed from the oven, but they will become tough when they cool down.
  • You can also use this dough to make a gingerbread house, and then after removing it from the oven as the parts are still soft, you can shape it with a knife (the dough rises a little when you take it out of the oven and the edges of your house become uneven).
  • A thicker dough is about 0.7 cm for a gingerbread house.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes at 180°C/ 350°F
  • You can decorate them traditionally with icing or melted milk, bitter or white chocolate. Chocolate really gives the gingerbread an interesting flavor.
