Burger King's zesty sauce is a delightful addition that elevates more than just burgers—it enhances the flavor of onion rings, French fries, grilled meats, and sandwiches, too. I adore this sauce as a flavorful alternative to mayonnaise in egg salad or deviled eggs.

This copycat recipe captures the essence of Burger King's zesty sauce, infusing your dishes with character and a distinct taste. The blend of creamy mayonnaise, tangy horseradish sauce, ketchup, and a splash of lemon juice makes a perfect accompaniment to meats, vegetables, and egg dishes. Please give it a try.
Renowned for its popularity, this sauce has been celebrated and replicated across countless blogs, inspiring me to craft my own tantalizing version.
How to choose the best ingredients for the Burger King Zesty Sauce recipe

Mayonnaise: Good-quality mayonnaise is the foundation of a creamy, tasty sauce. You can also make your own mayonnaise using my mayo recipe to perfect the taste.
Ketchup: I use tomato ketchup with a small amount of vinegar because I don't like the sauce's vinegary taste, but you can use whatever suits you.
Horseradish sauce: I base my horseradish sauce on good, which means spicy. If you have access to horseradish root, you can make it yourself.
Yellow mustards: The best yellow mustard is the American version with medium spiciness, but the one bought in Ikea will also work (I also like and use this one); however, typical English hot Mustard, e.g., Colman mustard, is not suitable, as it is too spicy.
Sugar will be enough, any you have on hand, brown or sugar cane will also work.
Fresh lemon juice is the best option, but lemon juice concentrate will work just fine if you don't have any.
Lemon zest (optional): If you use lemon zest, remember to wash it well first and use unwaxed lemons.
Worcestershire sauce is needed to give it even more spiciness.
Cayenne pepper (optional) if you like very spicy flavors.
Expert Tip for Success
- Blend instead of stirring — this gives you a much smoother, creamier sauce
- Let it rest before serving — prepare it at least 30 minutes ahead and chill for about 1 hour to develop the flavor
- Use a squeeze bottle — especially for sandwiches or burgers, it makes serving easier and cleaner
- Add fresh parsley at the end — it brightens the flavor and gives a fresh finish
- Make it ahead — the sauce tastes even better after some time in the fridge

Delicious. I just tested these side by side as I had a couple of packets with my meal and thought "Man, this stuff is good!". Here are my adjustments after comparing side by side:
Add: 2 more tablespoons of horseradish, double the worchestershire sauce and add 2 tsp white vinegar. That seems a bit closer to the real deal, but the base recipe you've provided is fire!
Thanks a bunch! I will definitely be making this as a dipping sauce form now on!

Thank you so much, Mitch F., for testing them side by side — I love that level of dedication!
Your adjustments sound spot on. Extra horseradish + more Worcestershire + that splash of white vinegar? Yes, please! I can totally see how that brings it even closer to the Burger King version.
I’m really glad you enjoyed the base recipe and made it your own.
Thanks a ton for sharing your tweaks — other readers will appreciate it too! And yay for having a new go-to dipping sauce!
